Somatic Experiencing
Resolve symptoms of stress, shock, and trauma that get stuck in the body.
Come back into your body. Come back home.
I became a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) in 2018, after completing an extensive 216-hr training with the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute. Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a naturalistic approach to the healing of trauma developed by Dr. Peter Levine. It’s based on the understanding that trauma is stored in the body and nervous system. This approach is geared towards recovering from overwhelming experiences and can also help those wanting to deepen connection with oneself and others, and feel more comfortably authentic.
Somatic Experiencing can increase tolerance for difficult body sensations and emotions while encouraging body awareness and regulation. SE aims to release stored traumas by gently guiding individuals to reconnect with their bodily sensations, allowing them to process and integrate past experiences in a safe and supportive environment. SE aims to help complete stuck responses of fight, flight, and freeze that get inhibited after stressful or traumatic experiences. By addressing these unresolved patterns, individuals can gain a greater capacity for self-regulation.
Benefits may include:
Restore the body's natural capacity to self-regulate
Create a new relationship with your body
Improve your ability to handle intense emotions
Feel more secure and energized
Relief from traumatic stress symptoms
Build self-trust
Find more calm and relaxation
My training in somatic experiencing heavily influences my approach to psychotherapy and beyond.
